Strange but true...for many of the Airtel subscribers...something strange happened (and is still continuing as I write this post)...NO NETWORK...I was talking to a friend and network just zoomed away and EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY came flashing on screen of my mobile...

Its already 30 minutes and no network still....I am in facing this in Noida and one of my friend also is facing this in Delhi...anyone else witnessing this?

Thanks God! - I have Tata Indicom network for my laptop's internet connection...

A $10 Laptop!!!

You read right. First came the $100 One Laptop Per Child windup laptop project, now researchers in India believe they can make one even cheaper, try $10!

This is according to a proposal winding it’s way through the Indian government which believes a laptop computer can be made now for as low as $10.

That means that ten times as many computers could conceivably be made available to poor and underprivileged communities in India and other third world nations than the UN approved OLPC Negroponte models.

Providing support for the project, is Semiconductor Complex, a state-sponsored designer and manufacturer of integrated circuits who stand to win any potential contract for the hardware needed to build it.

Officials are considering two different design proposals from an engineering student from the Vellore Institute of Technology and a researcher from the Indian Institute of Science.

Both sides believe that a laptop comparable to the OLPC can now be made for half the cost of the windup model, but have high hopes that with advances in manufacturing and distribution techniques, that ultimately the price can be slashed to the goal of $10.

Much like the OLPC, chances are, it would run on open source software like Linux, otherwise, with Windows running it, the cost would skyrocket to well over three times that of the UN Model.

allows you to sen mails to yourself from future to past. For example....imagine you are working today to get that big project of a client or planning to marry hat girl in your life but dont know what is going to happen. Send a mail to yourself through this service which you can arrange to come to you after 2 or any number of years. It will be a surprise once you get the mail after that time saying....REMEMBER I WAS THINKING OF MARRYING HER....

An eMarketer.com report estimates that Google will account for twenty-five percent of all online ad revenue. Google's share continues to increase (65% increase YoY) while Yahoo's growth continues to decrease, eMarketer says. Google first surpassed Yahoo in ad revenue back in 2005, but barely. Google in 2006 is expected to earn over $4 billion in ad revenue but Yahoo has just $2.9 billion according to eMarketer.com.

Now consider this Today US online advertising is worth 13 Billion $ and is expected to go to 26 Billion $ by 2013, imagine the power of Google!.

Scientists teleport two different objects

Professor Eugene Polzik and his team managed to move an object about 18 inches, using an excruciatingly complicated process that amounts to some serious magic.
Although the scientists admit that no humans are going to be teleported a la Star Trek any time soon, this technology might make it possible to transmit and process data at unheard-of speeds. Can't wait to see that.

We're talking exact, too, with the same 12-cylinder engine, gearbox, radiator, suspension, controls—in fact, if you were a one-third-sized person and sat in this Ferrari, you'd insert a perfectly-engraved key (that's identical to the real one) into the ignition and start the car exactly the way you would in the full-sized car. I found some people in my office to acess certain websites (Orkut!!!) through some indirect channels (since its ban in HCL)..this led to curisoity in my mind...wht are the websites Indians are clogged on to....where do they go to find information? social networking? etc etc....

Here are my findings:
I had to rely on alexa since there is no creditable study being done by any Indian source (Is IAMAI listening?..

Based on Alexa traffic details, here is the top 10 list of India's Most Popular websites:

1. Yahoo: This includes yahoo network (including mail/answers,etc etc)
2. Google: Indian Version is most used saerch engine in India
3. Orkut.com (If I need to tell you what is this then you are a dud!) But frankly I am still surprised that Orkut is at No. 3, I was expecting some bank like ICICI or news website but I am happy for Google :))

4. Google.com: Wow..for genereal junta: Google.co.in was at No.2 and Google.com is here
5. rediff.com
6. MSN Network
7. Rapidhshare: File sharing website

Sometime in May 2000, there was news from Israel's Weizmann Institute( a research centre with a reputation for scientific and technological breakthroughs.)Under their system a person could send an 'encoded' message from one computer to another, then translated to a sensor which would release chemicals imitating the smell."

Then there was news of NTT in japan to have displayed a costly demonstration with smells of atural oils, such as eucalyptus, sandalwood and basil.(It cost around 10000USD)

Plus there were many news from all parts of world of work going on in this project.
And now news from from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
We've been hearing threats of smell-o-vision for decades now, but it looks like engineers at the Tokyo Institute of Technology are getting serious about an odor recorder that can analyze scents and reproduce them by combining the 96 chemicals packed inside the device. Not only will it be able to approximate the smells of the finer things of life such as freshly-baked bread or apple pie, but it could also help doctors to diagnose remote patients by whipping up a hell of a stench with smells of urine, bile and rotten egg farts.

You point the device at an object, and then it records its odor using 15 chemical-sensing microchips, or electronic noses. It can then transmit that data to another device in a different location, or save it for later playback. So far, the system has been able to accurately record and play back the scent of orange, lemon, apple, banana and melon, and it's said to be able to demonstrate the difference in scent between a red and green apple.

The researchers hope to implement the device for online shopping, where you'll be able to smell before you buy, and also in various virtual-reality environments. As they are with all technological innovations, we're thinking the porn industry will lead the way with stank-ho-vision. –

Ok, So here are we, with Google Checkout. Google's service to help internet users, search, look, find and then now BUYING things.
But I have some apprehensions with it now.
1. I was expecting a makeover shift to Froogle.com? What happens to it now? Though I agree it was the service from Google which has not picked up but Google should have attempted to link services of Checkout with it. I am wondering what would happen with it now?
2. It asks for details like your card number ., cvv number for registration. Internet users have been in dilemma for such details over internet, with registration requiring such details on start up might be asking for too much from majority of people. (it is currebtly only in USA but whn it does come to India, it will have to think about it as Indians are still not used to it.)

Radiations from your handsets??

Many organizations including the cell phone industry often downplay the risk of cell phone radiation to the brain. Results from short-term studies were used to convince consumers that use of a cell phone is not associated with brain tumors or cancer, which only develop decades after exposure.

To be fair, no one knows exactly how much harm a cell phone can do to a person. However, one thing for sure is that the radiation from a cell phone is harmful. It is only a matter of how much. There is no denying that.

Recently, new media has reported a study showing the radiation from cell phones is so full of energy they can be used to cook eggs.

In the experiment, researchers placed one egg in a porcelain cup (because it is easy to conduct heat), and put one cell phone on one side and another cell phone on the other. The researchers then called from one cell phone to another and kept the cell phones on after connecting.

During the first 15 minutes, nothing changed. After 25 minutes, however, the egg shell started to become hot and at 40 minutes, the surface of the egg became hard and bristled. Researchers found the protein in the egg had become solid although the egg yolk was still in liquid form. After 65 minutes, the whole egg was well cooked.

The study shows how scary cell phone radiation is. People should try to avoid use of cell phones. Although so far no one has proved the radiation from cell phones can cause something clinically significant. By the same token, there has been no one who can disprove the existence of such a risk.

Children should be forbidden from cell phone use because they still grow their brains and are particularly vulnerable to radiation.

Wal-Mart has announced a new partnership with Toshiba to develop and sell the first Restriction on Hazardous Susbstance (RoHS) laptop. RoHS is a directive that forbids the use of a variety of hazardous substances in electronic equipment, including laptops. Green Star, a non-profit organization, is reporting that consumer electronics make up 40 percent of the lead found in landfills.
This environmental-friendly laptop is the 15-inch Toshiba Satellite A55-S1064. It will be featuring a 1.6GHz Celeron-M, 512MB memory, 40GB hard drive and Wi-Fi. The laptop will be priced less than $700 in most markets. Wal-Mart's says that all computers sold at their stores will meet RoHS standards by July

Now a Denver startup called Scratch-Less Disc is marketing a version that can be clawed at, dropped--even smeared with peanut butter--and still play like new. To protect their playing surfaces, the discs are made with aerodynamic bumpers around the edges and a clear 4-micron layer of a polymer developed by General Electric.
With nearly $1 million in funding, Scratch-Less is bringing its brand of CD-Rs and recordable DVDs to stores. It's also looking to license its technology to other disc makers, so consumers may eventually enjoy glitch-free prerecorded music and movies. Meanwhile, industry giants such as Toshiba are spending millions to develop their own scratch-proof media. With next-generation DVD formats HD-DVD and Blu-ray cramming more data onto discs, it will be more important than ever to protect them from peanut butter.

Kosmix.com: Indian reply to Google??

Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan,Two Indian computer wizards who studied along with Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford, are launching a start-up to compete with the world’s best known search engine.
Google searches pages based on their popularity and not necessarily their content but Kosmix’ creators said they took a different approach and developed a new kind of ’categorisation’ technology.

The two, among the co-founders of web database company ‘Junglee’, hope their technology can improve upon Google’s one-size-fits-all approach.

Kosmix asks users to define a category for a search. If a search term is related to health, users can make a query in a health-related search box. Hence, it can find webpages closely associated with the search term. It then looks at what webpages linking to other pages say, thus judging the page’s subject better.

The company, set up last year, will launch at the demo conference for start-ups in Phoenix next week.

Kosmix has already started testing a health search on its website. Over the next year, the company will release numerous categories of search—from health to travel, politics and finance. It plans to unveil a general search box within a year.

Lenovo Launchin Titanium , will the landmark black color of Thinkpad change?
Whats your take?
I beleive it should not becuase black color is owned by Thinkpad.
But considering what Ipod did can be quite good in case of Lenovo.
Ipad was launched as white but then it came in different colors (Nanos, Shuffles,etc)
But the color of Thikpad should never change.
So my take: Black color should not change because thats got so strong association with Thinkpad but Titanium color for another series can be quite good for Lenovo's bottom line.

and today on 19 November its offering 2666.000270...that means in 50 days it added about 27 Mb....more than what hotmail is offering even after more than 9 years of existence.
Its offering 25 Mb to most of the consumers and 250 to consumers in some markets. And some of the peopl are still getting 2 Mb.
Lets see what the marketing giant Microsoft does to tackle the situation.

The Internet is evoloving fast and furiously.....Search Engine Market is bursting with Action....the master is diversifying and there are already rumors that the www.google.com page which has not changed ever since it firt appeared is going to get changed in sometime....amidst all this Amazon launches its own search engine A9.The fight of Who-is-searching-more is not still over between Yahoo and google and A9 is certainly going to attaract lot of attraction.Now the big question ....will A9 do something to google (which already accounts for more than 70% of all searches on net?)...I think to some extent yes....over the times Relevancy ....the major factor of searches was getting sidelined in the quest of who searches more....A9 can be an answer to that coz what it is seling is search on the wesbites like Flickr and webshots and many other community based wesbites..For Example "anshul sushil" on google will give you results from the web but now from A9 if you click on flickr and other tabs you will be able to see if anshul sushil has profile on any such websites...Its quite good ...but the major factor is credibility which I am sure will become the most important factor in coming years ....Alexa (from Amazon) was discarded by many just because it was a spyware but still its a fabulous software......along qith this Amazon is trying to come up with Maps (like Google Maps) but here again the differentiation is cams fitted on the roads and giving real pictures...rather than satellite pictures....so the heat is on and Google has got new challenges from a proven competetior who revelutiozed the Internet..Amazon....

I was expecting it from some time and ..you will not find many pages referring to it...but it will come very soon....similarly something is hatching at Yahoo

I am a google fan...but I am really getting worried to what its upto..i have read the entire "AGREE" document that Gmail has to say before you sign up but the most atrocious fact is it is indeed reading all our mails..what if it leaks the information....I have full faith in it......but with great power comes great responsibility (ya ya spiderman!!!).just hope Google adheres to it.....

there are scores of people who have expressed that MicroSoft is villain....it traces our doings on net and retreives all this thru OS which can not be altered by a common user......we all agree to it....but see it from other side.....it integrates all the softwares and sell it a a bundle, thus saving lots of people who are not familiar with computers....I agree that MS has been always svanaging on popular softwares and then acquire it by any means...be that Hotmail...EXCEL...Windows....anything...but hats off to the business strategy of their making them the largest tech company on plante with in less than 30 years.....Have you ever thought what Google is doing?.....it can see what we are looking for (Google Search)..discussing (gmail).....thinking (bloggger.com).......chatting or talking (google talk)...buying (froogle)..where we are based and going (Gooogle Maps)...does it not scare you?It has so much information about us...I am a great google fan...it challenged the monopoly of companies like MS (heard they are making their own OS)...but i just hope they always stick to their credo of .............................here is a little incident to share with you....It was my friend's birthday when I sent him a mail and he replied to me....i had asked my friend to tell him what GIFT he would want ...I was flabbergasted as to what I saw on the right corner of webpage...ads for places where I could buy him jeans as gift and all...it was a little shock because it was attack on privacy matters...
and then the incident in China where Google took away the top MS Scentist at double the salary.....the very pace at which Google is growing is threatening....
If MS was murky, lets hope the new ruler Google Inc. is not murkier.......A Men!!!

This is my first PDA phone....though its an old model from Ericcson (year 2000)...but its unique and eye catching in its own way....till its flap is closed people look at me holding such a big fone but when i open the flap take out the stylus...all eyes turn an the fone....there have been instances when this fone has successfully caught attention at right times. ;-)).....
the negatives are its bulky and does not fit into pocket (even if it does ....its very inconvenient)....
memory is also less (2MB) but can be synchronized wth computer so its OK.....the best part I like is sending sms and email is so convenient by using stylus... it comes with handsfree which is quite good...The first time i held it in hand ...reclled MATRIX ""Trinity, I need an exit" ..... battery is also not quite convenient but its been with me now for almost 2 years and battery is still going steady, i have to charge it for 5 years and it runs smoothly for 1 official day....

Its damn neat ..simple to use and easy interfaces...
Newest from the stable of Google...
It follows the principle of simple yet sophisticated from Google...
Built on the No frills based front end, best thing about Google Talk is CPU used while using it which was the biggest failure of yah00 7.0

PROS
1. Multiple Windows Sorted: What i liked about the software is multiple windows (click on the screenshot)..when u r talking to multiple freinds you can talk simulaneously while other messengers force you to maintain multiple windows...
2. Size: Installation File is small (less than 1Mb)....

3. No ads: as compared to MSN and Yahoo...

Cons
1. Keyboard Friendliness: Its not there as was expected from it being part of the google ..so if u r one of those mousephobic, you will hate it

2. File Transfer: Not possible (as of now ...)

3. Chat: Not possible to save the chats (besides copy paste), i like the Message History of yahoo and MSN (Though I dont like XML based History of MSN but it has got its own feature of viwing the chats even if u offline...more about it later ;-))

Final Verdict: Google Talk is out and already famous being part of the growing Gmail....Do check it out at http://www.google.com/talk/

I have been witness to many a chagrins of many fellow employees at my current job for carrying URLs of many web links with them, scribbling on a piece of paper or writing on Virtual Notepad and saving it on god knows where places. I was looking for handy software, which can help me in bookmarking all my URLS conveniently on the web. This led me to yahoo software, which can help exporting all the explorer favorites to yahoo bookmarks. But the bookmark website of yahoo is hard to open and not easy navigational website (On ranking of 1 to 10 if google is 10, yahoo bookmark is just 3).
My hunt led me to this software on http://www.mybookmarks.com (free downloadable and freeware).
All you have to do is create login on the website and start exporting all your favorites to the website. (I particularly liked the URL of the website, it is easy to remember).
Ratings for Remark
1. Ease to use 8 (Google as benchmark is 10)
2. Navigational Ease 7 (Google is 10)
3. Deliverability 7 (Google is 10)
Overall I definitely would recommend a trial for it.
